Pass the New York Hunter and Bowhunter Education Exams

New York Hunting Law, Firearm and Bow Safety and Hunter Ethics for Every First-Time License Buyer: 75 Practice Questions with Explanations, Three 50-Question Hunter Mock Exams and Two 40-Question Bowhunter Mock Exams

Ebook. Also on other Apple Books and Google Play Books stores.

Taking the New York Hunter Education or Bowhunter Education course? Every first-time hunting license buyer in New York needs the Hunter Education certificate, and the Bowhunter Education certificate is needed to hunt deer or bear with a bow or crossbow. This guide follows the subjects of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) courses in ten short chapters, explains the licensing rules, firearm and bow safety, shooting distances, big game rules, tagging and reporting, junior hunter and mentor rules, and crossbows at the level the courses ask for, points out the traps (age 11 for the course and age 12 to hunt, the hours of legal hunting, fluorescent orange or pink, what makes a deer antlered, tagging and the 48-hour harvest report, distances from roads and buildings, mentors for junior hunters, crossbows and the bowhunter certificate) and then lets you practice until the answers come without hesitation.

This is an independent study guide for new hunters and for parents of young hunters. It is not affiliated with, produced by, endorsed or approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation or any course provider, and it does not contain real exam questions. The mock exams in this book are the book's own model, not the DEC exams: three Hunter Education mock exams of 50 questions and two Bowhunter Education mock exams of 40 questions. They are marked at 80 percent, the standard of the online course: 40 correct answers out of 50, or 32 out of 40. DEC does not publish the pass mark of the classroom final exams.

What is inside:

  • 10 short chapters you can read on a phone: the courses and the final exams; licenses and privileges; firearm safety; where you may shoot; big game rules; take it, tag it, report it; junior hunters, mentors and youth hunts; hunting safely afield; bowhunter education, the bowhunting privilege and crossbows; bowhunting equipment, shot placement and recovery
  • 3 appendices: a step-by-step checklist from classroom to first license, numbers to remember, a glossary with a seven-day revision plan
  • 75 original practice questions in the order of the chapters, every one with the correct answer and a short explanation
  • 3 full Hunter Education mock exams of 50 questions and 2 full Bowhunter Education mock exams of 40 questions, with answers and explanations

Rules are current at the time of writing. Where a point could not be confirmed, the book says so and tells you to check the official sources.

You still have to take the required DEC course and pass its exam. This book does not replace that course, the current New York Hunting and Trapping Guide or the advice of a hunter education instructor.

Method of creation: this book was written with the help of artificial intelligence tools, under the author's direction; every rule was written from its source text and reviewed and every practice question was written for this book.
