Pass the NMC CBT
Test of Competence Part 1 for Internationally Educated Nurses. Numeracy Method, Clinical Course and 600 Practice Questions
Ebook. Also on other Apple Books and Google Play Books stores.
Qualified as a nurse outside the UK and preparing for the NMC Test of Competence? The computer-based test (CBT) is Part 1, and it is passed or failed in two separate parts. This book gives you a written method for every type of numeracy question, a short course on the rules behind the clinical questions, and 600 original questions to practise on.
The CBT is a single sitting of 3 hours. Part A is 15 numeracy questions in 30 minutes, each needing one numerical answer. Part B is 100 four-option multiple-choice questions in 2 hours 30 minutes. Each part is marked pass or fail on its own, so a strong Part B does not rescue a weak Part A.
What is inside:
- 16 short chapters you can read on a phone: your route to the register, the format and rules on the day, two chapters of numeracy method, then the clinical course by platform (the NMC Code, consent and mental capacity, safeguarding, infection prevention, NEWS2 and sepsis, medicines management, fundamentals of care, mental health and dementia, leadership, end of life care)
- 4 appendices: a workbook of 150 worked calculations, key numbers and formulas, revision checklists with a mock exam score sheet, and a glossary of UK nursing terms
- 450 original multiple-choice questions, each with the correct answer and a short explanation, including 3 full mock exams of 100 questions weighted like the real Part B
- In all, 600 practice questions: 150 calculations and 450 multiple-choice questions
Rules are tied to their sources: the NMC, the Code, legislation, NICE, the Resuscitation Council UK and the Royal College of Physicians, read in October 2026. Where a point could not be confirmed, the book says so and tells you to check the NMC website. Fees and pass marks can change, so check the NMC site before you pay or book.
All questions are original. This is an independent study guide: it is not affiliated with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and it does not contain real test questions. It is not a substitute for clinical guidance: never use it to decide the care of a real patient.
Book 6 in the Pass the Test series (volume to be confirmed at publication).
Method of creation: this book was written with the help of artificial intelligence tools, under the author's direction; every rule was checked against its source text and every practice question was written for this book.
