Pass the TfL SERU Assessment

Safety, Equality and Regulatory Understanding for London Private Hire Drivers. Full Course, 400 Practice Questions and 4 Mock Assessments

Ebook. Also on other Apple Books and Google Play Books stores.

Applying for a London private hire driver licence, or renewing one? You must pass TfL's Safety, Equality and Regulatory Understanding (SERU) assessment. This book teaches you what is behind the questions, then lets you practise until the real assessment feels familiar.

The assessment is based on TfL's Private Hire Vehicle Driver's Handbook. Drivers and operators describe it as 37 questions in 45 minutes with a 60 per cent pass mark, using multiple-choice, complete-the-sentence and reading questions; TfL can change the format, so the book tells you to check your booking confirmation. The course is written in plain English for drivers who read English as a second language and who revise on a phone.

What is inside:

  • 12 short chapters: how the SERU works, getting and keeping your licence, telling TfL, the licensed vehicle, carrying out journeys, staying safe, professional behaviour and boundaries, driving and parking in London, safer driving, equality and disability, safeguarding and ridesharing, and exam technique
  • 30 worked scenarios with explained answers
  • 5 appendices: 4 full mock assessments of 37 questions each, with answers, and a revision sheet, assessment-day checklist and plain-English word list
  • 400 original practice questions in 16 sets of 25, every one with the correct answer and a short explanation

Every rule is tied to its source: the TfL handbook, TfL notices, legislation.gov.uk and GOV.UK. Where a point could not be confirmed, the book says so and tells you to check with TfL. Fees and rules change, so check the date on every figure. The book covers London private hire drivers only, not taxi drivers.

All questions are original. This is an independent study guide: it is not produced, endorsed or approved by Transport for London, and it does not contain real assessment questions.

Method of creation: this book was written with the help of artificial intelligence tools, under the author's direction; every rule was checked against its source text and every practice question was written for this book.
